Electric Consumer is the award-winning monthly publication of Indiana’s electric cooperative community.
The publication serves consumers of 26 locally-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives. More than 225,000 families and businesses receive the printed newspaper as part of their electric co-op membership. Electric Consumer provides news, information and features about people, places and issues relating to electric co-ops, their consumers and communities.
Electric Consumerstaff members annually produce the Cooperative Calendar of Student Art and coordinate all aspects of the calendar’s art contest. Staff also produces the Directory of Indiana’s Rural Electric Cooperatives and markets local co-op editions of the annual Farmers’ Almanacs.
Each year, the Youth Power and Hope Awards program — which is administered by Electric Consumer — recognizes five Indiana students in fifth through eighth grade who are making their communities a better place. Essays submitted by the winners are published in Electric Consumer — plus the young community service advocates are formally recognized during the Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., annual meeting.
